On June 06, 1996 POLAR was at the high latitude polar cap moving towards the nightside plasma sheet. While still in the polar cap/magnetotail lobe CEPPAD observed a transient signature of energetic particles. The signature was observed at 0600-0700 UT, and at 1000-1100 UT. The EFI instrument exhibited large changes in the spacecraft potential (Pot12) that were correlated with large electric fields (+-30 mV/m). Although these changes were common thoughout the interval presented, the most significant changes were seen at around 0600 UT.
Figure 1 shows the CEPPAD data for the event (dayplot).
Figure2.gif shows the EFI data for the event (0500-1300).
Figure2.ps shows the same data in postscript format.
Figure3.gif shows an expaned version of the EFI data for the event in the plasma sheet boundary layer + plasma sheet proper (1500-1720). Please not that after 1720 UT a spurious oscillation due to the high plasma density starts that does not allow good measurements in the spin plane. We can still use the on-axis booms for Ey_gse measurements if necessary, provided we do not go into shadow (I have not checked for that).
