May 9, 2006:
A Rethink Of Flare Hard X-Ray Source Models
John Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland and Professor at University of Glasgow
The superb data from RHESSI are driving a lot of hard rethinking among some theorists about solar flare hard X-ray sources and the role of energetic electrons in the flare energy budget. I will talk about some of the recent issues brewing among the Glasgow theorists and their possible ramifications, including doubts about the Thick Target 'Standard Model' raised by the effect of photospheric albedo on spectra and by various other observational and theoretical arguments.
